The Bleeding Sky was witten from the recordings my mother made of her recollections of the Shoah. Growing up Jewish in a small Polish town, my mother and one younger sister were all that survived from among her parents, 4 sisters, 2 brothers, husband and young daughter. Her older brother was married and had a young daughter. What happened to her sister-in-law and niece was never known. The Bleeding Sky is the story of how many of them died and how my mother and her sister survived.

The title was taken from my mother's coments about how the sky looked in Auschwitz. Because of the ash in the air from the crematoriums the shy took on a deep red color at sunset. The subtitle is from Zechariah 13:8,9.
